Guests were welcomed at the entrance with a replica of the invitation, with text changed, to set the mood and a great big bowl of sweeties. Of course, those were the first to go!
The party area has a big open fireplace and mantle above, so I elected to close it up and use it as the kiddies table area. Hubby and I had great fun assembling the little monster bobble heads, that we used throughout the party area. The hanging banners were printed on heavy cardboard which I punched and secured using fishing line to add a 'floating' effect. Another favourite were the monster mouths and eyes for photo props. Flowers still left from Mother's Day made for a great last minute piece in the centre of the mantle, and I threw in some theme-friendly chinese lanterns for good measure.
As the party was held over lunch time, I decided to serve a 'healthy' savoury dish to the kiddies. Each setting had a veggie kebab, roast chicken drumstick and oven baked chips with tomato sauce for dunking. I wrapped juice boxes in coordinating colour paper and stuck on some googly eyes. Orange jelly topped with custard was on offer for dessert. I placed some marshmallow pops (I'm too
Naturally, the sweet table drew the most interest (from kids and adults alike). I kept the sweets to a minimum with a couple of sticks of rock candy, some orange suckers and candy and a naartjie (orange) flavoured Fizzer. I baked and iced the cupcakes myself and those served as the 'cake' for the day.
The 'Big Monsters' had a selection of finger friendly snacks, cold meats, olives and home-made pates all labelled with Little Monster food labels.
All in all, a great day and the Little Monster in question had a super time!
